From early on, I've always believed that giving up is a terrible idea. Instead I want to understand the problem, come up with ideas, evaluate and finally implement it.
In this example we needed to come up with a sitting solution on my girlfriends balcony where no commercial product fitted.
I grew up with exchange students from countries like Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Taiwan and South Africa living with us. Getting to know and understanding people from different cultures was not only fun but very formative in the way I see myself today.
In this example we visited one of our exchange students from SA for her wedding and learned a lot about the culture in SA.
Being part of the Rotarian Exchange Program is really great. I was able to spend an exchange year in Australia, living with amazing and inspiring host families that welcomed me. While being an exchange student I learned that you are representative of your cultural background and country and that you're responsible to share your cultural and personal values with others. I also learned how important it is to give back to the community.
A few years ago a friend and I came up with the idea to form lamps out of old or scratched vinyls/records. Our idea was to heat the records up and pull them into shape with a self-build machine. After a few tries and many difficulties on the way we succeed with our idea. You can see the finished result above.
In 2019 a friend and I started a podcast that was available on all major podcast platforms. Our goal was to entertain and explore topics that were important to us. Taking the time to record a podcast with someone interesting is really rewarding. I learned a lot about noting, observing and communicating besides all the technical aspects of recording, editing and hosting a podcast.
Having seen some of the most amazing places on earth like the Great Barrier Reef or the coasts of Hawaii I really appreciate the value of nature. Seeing our environment destroyed is heartbreaking.
I believe that economic growth in the 21st must be sustainable. That's why I'm participating in the Fridays for Future movement.
Communicating with others is a basic human need. In today's interconnected global community, shared languages enable you to interact and engage with other people on a global level. Besides German and English I will start learning Portuguese next semester.
I really enjoy sailing. Being out on the water puts me in such a good mood and it's great for the mental health.
Sailing also taught me organisational talent and being a fully reliable crew member. If you're out on the water you need to have full trust in every on the boat.
During my exchange year with Rotary in Australia I learned how wonderful it is to meet and become friends with people from all over the world. Since then I have visited and hosted many of them over the years.
Having a good and supporting network of people is very important to me.
I've a low threshold to start a new project and get my hands dirty.
What started in this example as a small idea during the pandemic with the brother of my girlfriend, developed into a pretty big project with 7m2 of soil and gravel, a 35+ m2 wooden terrace and 2 weeks of work. It's amazing to see something finished that you build with your own hands and see what skills you learned during the process.
I would definitely describe myself as a techie. I love to try out and learn about new technology and products. Since a few years I'm an active member of the OnePlus Closed Beta and Alpha programs. This includes testing devices before launch and reporting software bugs and suggestions for improvement. During this time I learned a lot about the development cycle of tech products and software.
Family is really important in my life. Being ambitious and driven is only possible for me because I have trust, support and really good communication with my family.
During my academic and professional career I learned how to be an independent and self-organised person. I have always had my own goals that I wanted to achieve, which meant setting my own schedule, organising myself, making my own decisions and taking responsibility for my actions.
I have a thirst for knowledge. Next to my bachelor degree in industrial engineering I have visited many online courses to learn valuable skills that I can't get at university. Doing courses on e.g. Software Robotics with UI Path enabled my to get an internship at BMW where I was able to create and deploy a Software Robot to automate a whole business process.
Other courses I did were on Visualisations with Tableau, Cloud Deployment, Web development and Machine Learning.
I've played a variety of team sports in my life which have taught me the value of proper communication and the value of everyones contribution to the team effort.
In my academic career I've had the opportunity to lead and contribute to several different team projects . My management abilities- coupled with my research and analysis skills- help me to be a versatile and well-rounded team member.
Traveling and exploring new places is such a great way to expand your horizon. Meeting new people and seeing new places gives me new perspectives and influences the way I think.
In this example we were on a 10 day hike on Hinchinbook Island which is an island in front of Australia with no permanent population. During this time we learned, besides all the fun, a lot about self sustainability, the importance of planning and team support.
Being active and exploring nature is the perfect contrast to studying and working for me. In recent years I learned water sports like surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing. Combining sports and nature in my free time is the best way to free my head, organise my thoughts and explore my limits. Doing water sports taught me a lot about the power of nature and the importance of looking out and supporting each other.
Databases are used to organise, store and access large amounts of data. I'm familiar with the design, modelling and optimisation of relational databases. I'm also fluent in the Query Language SQL and comfortable to set up, manage and deploy databases with MySQL, PostgresQL and IBM DB2.
During my studies in Industrial Engineering and Management I've put my focus on Data Science. I'm also looking for Masters in Data Science starting 2022. During my studies I've been learning lots about statistics including descriptive statistics, test statistics and inference models. I'm also learning the programming skills to perform data analysis, inference modelling and data visualisation in python.
For my Bachelor thesis I investigated Online Political Microtargeting on Facebook during the 2019 European election. Online Political Microtargeting is a relatively new form of political direct marketing in which political actors target personalised messages to individual voters by applying predictive modeling techniques to massive troves of voter data. The goal of voter microtargeting is to activate the base, persuade undecided voters, and improve partisan turnout. In my thesis I did a literature review of available methods and the infrastructure to roll-out individually targeted advertisements in a political environment. In addition I did a data analysis with all advertisements placed on Facebook during the election time.
During my internship at BMW Bank I was working on Software Robotics using UiPath. Besides the very interesting field of Software Robotics, I learned a lot about the processes, organisation and communication in such a prestigious company like BMW.
I've been a working student for one year at IL Innovations Labor GmbH. They are a management consultancy specialised in startups. As a working student I've been contributing to business plans, financing plans and human resource planning for clients. Many projects succeeded with successful funding.
During my internship at BMW Bank I intensively learned about Software Robotics with UiPath. I think that Software Automation with tools like UiPath is a great way to automate business processes very quickly without huge software adjustments on the existing infrastructure with instant success and money savings.
Having practically used tools like UiPath taught me how to think about business processes from an automation point of view.
Digital Marketing is a field that I find very interesting. Especially Programmatic Advertising with Real-Time-Bidding (RTB), Search Optimisation (SEO), Search Advertising (SEA) and DooH Advertising are very fascinating. I'm amazed by the possibilities of data-driven marketing and the targeting mechanisms. I’ve also some experience setting up Online Marketing for Products.
I'm familiar with the programming principles in multiple languages including Java, C and Python. I can read, understand and write code. I'm most familiar with Python, that includes well known packages like numpy, matplotlib and pandas.
Studying full-time at the TU Berlin and working part-time as a working student taught me a lot about time management. I also try to maximise my efficiency with focus periods and productivity tools.
I'm extremely interested in the possibilities that come with cloud computing. In university I attended classes about modern application systems with IaaS, Paas and Saas business models and distributed systems. During my studies my group developed a chat application that was packaged with docker and hosted on an AWS instance.
At the moment I'm currently enrolled in an online Cloud Computing course on Udacity where I learned how to package an application with Docker, deploy it to a Kubernetes Cluster and set up an automated CI/CD pipeline for continuous integration and delivery.
I'm really interested in modern machine learning including Natural Language Processing (NLP), Deep Learning and Computer Vision. I've already attended Master courses on ML at the TU Berlin and I'm planning to get even more knowledge during my Masters, side projects, books and additional online courses.
Having studied business in my Bachelor degree taught me lots of valuable skills like reading financial reports, basics of internal accounting and principles of financial investments.
Having this background definitely shapes the way I think today about business ideas, projects and my work in general.
I really enjoy the freedom and creativity that web development enables. Creating your own website, blog or online shop to present your projects is really rewarding.
I've been designing a website for my dad, who is a solo-architect and for a medium sized electrical company in Berlin.
